Meet Our Director
Robert Cleaver FRICS
Robert has been deeply involved in property for over 50 years, starting out as a trainee surveyor with Leicester Corporation in 1970 before qualifying as a Chartered Surveyor in 1974. Since then, he’s built a career that combines professional expertise with entrepreneurial drive.
One of his biggest achievements was as a founding partner of Basepoint. What began as a local idea to provide flexible space for small businesses grew into a southern regional network of innovation and enterprise centres. Under Robert’s direction, the company expanded rapidly, setting a new standard for managed workspace — and eventually floated successfully on the AIM market.
Alongside Basepoint, Robert co-founded Cleaver Keys Holdings in 1983, and has spent decades delivering large- and small-scale commercial property developments across the UK. He has also served as a trustee and director on various boards, including West Itchen Community Trust, where he contributed voluntarily for over 15 years. His career has included joint ventures with international partners, the formation of multiple investment companies, and the long-term stewardship of property portfolios.
Despite such a busy professional life, Robert has always found time for his passions outside of work. He’s a lifelong fan of racquet sports, a hands-on enthusiast when it comes to classic cars, and enjoys outdoor pursuits and travel with his wife Linda, to whom he has been married since 1979.
Robert combines seasoned experience with a genuine curiosity for new opportunities, and remains as excited about the world of property today as he was when he first started out in the 1970s.
